During the six Sundays of Lent, we are diving into the reality of the need that surrounds us and fills us. Historically Lent has been seen as a time of sacrifice, where we give up things in order to identify with the sacrifice of Christ on the cross. From this we’ve heard how we are supposed to put others before ourselves. However, when you look at the life of Jesus, the story is more complicated than that. Instead of a single-minded, continual sacrifice for others, we see a more dynamic caring of need in Jesus’ life and ministry.
